BUTTERFLIES

This page is in the process of being built. It is hoped butterfly surveys will get under way this year.

At the moment the actual flowers and grasses on the site are scarce, but it is hoped to make a concerted effort to cut and rake the area three times this year in order to encourage species to push through. This process will increase the prospect of attracting butterflies to the site.

There are areas of food source for butterflies at the moment. In the bottom south corner we keep a small area of nettles which is vital for butterfly eggs and food source. If you look closely at the nettle leaves in summer you may see butterfly eggs. The brambles are also good food sources, attracting greenfly and aphids, all important parts of the food chain.
